Outsmart aging

Fighting discoloration and wrinkles is possible with a dedicated routine. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the sun is responsible for 90-95 percent of all wrinkles. Sunlight leads to wrinkles by breaking down the collagen in skin. Retinol, a form of Vitamin A, has been shown to replenish collagen production in deep layers of the skin. The sun, hormones and heredity all can play a role in uneven skin tone. A well balanced anti aging routine should also include a healthy diet, exercise, stress reduction and not smoking.

Become one with exfoliation. Regular use of at home scrubs can help remove small wrinkles by resurfacing the top dead layer of skin to make room for new skin. Exfoliation also helps lessen the appearance of brown spots that become more prominent under old skin. Try Clean and Clear Daily Pore Cleanser ($4.99) or Garnier Nutritioniste Microbead Cream Scrub ($5.99) at least twice per week. Beware of overscrubbing and use a gentle scrub with small grains to avoid tears in the skin. Garnier is a bit more abrasive than Clean and Clear.

Send spots and wrinkles packing! These pesky problems never seem to go away…Sun and hormones are largely to blame. The good news is that over the counter serums are getting better at treating spots and wrinkles. Steer clear of the sun for awhile and try Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Tone Correcting Serum ($16.49) nightly. This gem is oil free, and it contains soy, retinol and Vitamin C to smooth texture and fight wrinkles. I was psyched to sample it after deciding not to risk white spots trying over the counter hydroquinone. I have noticed a dramatic improvement in my skin tone in just a few weeks. Don’t forget to apply a 30 SPF broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen daily like CVS Oil Free Faces SPF 30 ($6.49).

About the Author

You can call me Tranquil Beauty. After spending a good portion of my life being disillusioned by my mind, I’m finally on a path led by my true self. I'm here because I've been blessed by the wisdom of so many others who powerfully emulate what it means to live guided by their own purpose. I'm profoundly grateful to share the knowledge I’ve gained after being enlightened by Neale Donald Walsch, Rick Warren, Eckhart Tolle, and Shakti Gawain (to name only a few). I feel this wisdom has permeated my being and shifted my focus from the past and the limitations of my mind to a state of pure consciousness that seeks to honor my true self. I've been a personal development fanatic since 1999. Some books that have influenced the website include Friendship with God, The Purpose Driven Life, The Power of Now, A New Earth, and Creative Visualization. My passion for beauty started at a very young age. Though primarily driven by personal struggles with fine curly hair and combination skin, my beauty expertise grew over the years from devouring numerous beauty publications and trying mounds of products. After wasting piles of money testing top of the line products, I've learned that expensive beauty products aren’t necessarily better products. Making a commitment to realize your beauty inside and out is a choice each and every moment. I believe strongly that we all have an innate power to create fulfilling lives. I vow to accept nothing less for those who wish to join me on that journey!
